Overview: YS-84 Entry-Scale Brine Injector

The YS-84 Meat Brine Injection Machine represents the entry point to industrial-grade brine injection technology without compromising on mechanical quality. With 84 precision stainless steel needles and a genuine German Wilo water pump, this unit delivers uniform brine penetration into pork, beef, and poultry cuts at injection pressures between 0.4 and 0.6 bar — sufficient for standard boneless and bone-in muscle tissue at entry-scale production volumes.

Built on the same mechanical platform as the higher-capacity YS-140 and YS-231 models, the YS-84 gives smaller processing facilities access to production-proven engineering at a lower capital cost. It integrates directly into any standard meat processing line between the raw material preparation stage and the tumbling or mixing operation, reducing manual marinating labour and delivering batch-to-batch injection consistency that manual methods cannot achieve.

Mechanical Design and Engineering

The feed mechanism uses a tooth-type stepping drive rather than a continuous belt, advancing the product in precise, measured increments under the needle head. Each step is calibrated to deliver full needle penetration across the entire product surface before the conveyor advances to the next position. This incremental approach eliminates the uneven injection coverage that continuous-feed designs produce on irregular-shaped cuts such as pork shoulders or whole chicken pieces.

Siemens PLC touchscreen control panel on YS brine injection machine

Each of the 84 needles is controlled individually by a pneumatic spring mechanism. When a needle tip contacts bone, cartilage, or a hard inclusion, the spring absorbs the resistance and automatically lifts the affected needle clear of the obstruction. This protection system allows the YS-84 to process bone-in products — ribs, pork leg, chicken thigh — on the same needle head as boneless fillets, without requiring a changeover.

The brine circuit incorporates two filtration stages: a suction-side filter removes particulates before the pump, and a return-side filter cleans recirculating brine after each injection cycle. Between production runs, an air-purge cycle clears residual brine from the needle bores. These systems work together to prevent needle blockage during extended continuous operation and reduce the frequency of strip-down cleaning required between product changeovers.

Component Specification

Key components are sourced from internationally recognised suppliers: Wilo water pump (Germany), Siemens PLC and touchscreen (Germany), SKF bearings (Sweden), igus guide sleeves (Germany), and Eaton manual switches (USA). None of these are substituted with domestic alternatives on cost grounds.

  • Brine Pump: German Wilo centrifugal pump — up to 0.6 bar working pressure, long service life in continuous-run food environments.
  • Control System: Siemens PLC with colour touchscreen HMI. Recipe storage, injection cycle management, and alarm logging.
  • Guide Rods: Chrome-plated hardened steel guide rods with igus (Germany) self-lubricating polymer sleeves. No grease in the food zone; long service life.
  • Bearings: SKF (Sweden) load-bearing elements throughout the needle head and conveyor drive assembly.
  • Construction: SUS304 food-grade stainless steel for all wetted surfaces, machine frame, conveyor, brine tank, and needle manifold.
  • Electrical Switches: Eaton (USA) manual switches for primary electrical control. Rated for industrial food-processing environments.

Pre-Shipment Quality Testing

Before crating, every YS unit runs at full rated load — needles at maximum stroke, pump at rated pressure, conveyor at operating speed — for eight continuous hours. Test records and video documentation are available upon request.

Warranty Coverage

Every YS machine ships with a full one-year whole-machine warranty covering structural components, pump, PLC, and conveyor mechanism. A complete set of quick-wear parts — needle seals, filter elements, and conveyor slats — is packed with every shipment at no additional charge.

Applications and Line Integration

Designed for continuous integration into commercial meat processing lines, the YS series handles pork, beef, poultry, and lamb in both boneless and bone-in configurations. Typical upstream input includes whole-muscle cuts from the thawing and trimming stage; downstream output feeds directly into vacuum tumbling or mixing before filling and smoking.

  • Pork shoulder, loin, and belly (boneless and bone-in)
  • Beef brisket, chuck, and round cuts
  • Whole chicken and turkey (boneless or bone-in)
  • Lamb leg and shoulder
  • Fish fillets and seafood (with appropriate needle diameter)
  • Pre-cure injection for deli meat and sausage ingredients

Line position: The YS-84 is installed after raw material thawing, trimming, and cutting (and after brine preparation), and before vacuum tumbling or mixing.

Downstream: Vacuum Tumbler & Mixer for marinade distribution, then filling, clipping, and smoking.

Choosing the YS-84: Is It Right for Your Operation?

The YS-84 is the appropriate choice when your processing volume does not yet justify the capital cost and power consumption of a 140-needle or 231-needle machine, but your quality standards already require consistent, mechanically-delivered brine injection rather than manual or tumbler-only marination. It is commonly chosen by facilities producing up to 500 kg per hour of injected product, by operations establishing a new processing line with a plan to add capacity, and by processors running multiple smaller product batches across a shift where individual batch volumes do not maximise a larger machine’s capacity.

The 84-needle configuration is not a compromise. It uses the same Wilo pump, Siemens PLC, igus guide rods, and SUS304 stainless frame as the YS-140 and YS-231. The difference is needle count and motor power — both of which determine throughput, not product quality. A correctly operated YS-84 delivers injection results indistinguishable from larger models when the production volume matches the machine’s designed operating range.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Daily cleaning of the YS-84 involves flushing the brine circuit with clean water, running the air-purge cycle to clear the needle bores, and wiping down the conveyor and machine frame. The needle manifold is designed for tool-free removal to allow access for detailed cleaning between product changeovers. The two-stage filter elements — included in the spare parts kit — require periodic replacement depending on brine particulate load and production volume.

Preventive maintenance intervals recommended by our engineering team: needle seal inspection every 30 operating days; filter element replacement every 60–90 operating days; guide rod and igus sleeve inspection every 90 days; pump impeller inspection every 180 days. A full maintenance guide is supplied in the English-language operation manual included with every machine.

Foire aux questions

Can the YS-84 process bone-in products without changing the needle head?

Yes. The pneumatic spring needle control system lifts individual needles automatically when bone or cartilage is contacted. No needle head changeover is required when switching between boneless and bone-in product runs on the same machine.

What injection rate (pickup percentage) can I expect with the YS-84?

The injection rate is fully adjustable via the Siemens PLC touchscreen. Typical commercial operating range is 10–40% pickup, depending on product density, brine viscosity, needle speed, and the number of passes through the machine. Multiple passes increase pickup rate. Our engineering team can advise on parameter settings for your specific product and brine formulation.

Is the YS-84 available in voltages other than 380V / 50Hz?

The standard machine is configured for 380V / 50Hz / 3-phase. Alternative voltage configurations (220V/60Hz, 440V/60Hz, or other market-specific requirements) can be specified at the time of order. Please include your local supply voltage in your enquiry.

Can needle diameter be customised?

Standard needle diameter is Φ3 mm. Φ2 mm needles are available for thin or delicate products such as fish fillets; Φ4 mm needles are available for high-viscosity brines or coarser products. Custom needle diameter must be specified at the time of order.

How long does a cleaning cycle take between product runs?

A standard between-product flush and air purge takes approximately 10–15 minutes. Full strip-down cleaning of the needle manifold and brine tank, required between different species or brine formulations, takes approximately 30–45 minutes with two operators using the tool-free needle manifold removal design.
